Heavy Duty Mechanic
Our transportation company, based in Canada, specializes in long-haul operations between Canada and the USA. We are seeking a skilled and reliable Mechanic to join our team and ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our fleet of trucks and trailers.
Purpose:
The Mechanic inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains the company’s fleet of trucks and trailers to ensure safe and efficient operations. The role involves performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and completing timely repairs to reduce downtime. Working closely with drivers and the operations team, the Mechanic ensures equipment remains in top condition and complies with safety and transportation regulations.
Reports to: Shop Supervisor
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on trucks and trailers.
- Repair and maintain engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, electrical systems, and other vehicle components.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs when necessary to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements for cross-border transportation (Canada-USA).
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation of all repairs and maintenance performed.
- Collaborate with drivers and operations staff to identify and resolve mechanical issues promptly.
- Participate in on call rotation typically one week a month.
- Support continuous improvement by recommending and implementing best practices in fleet maintenance.
Qualifications
- Red Seal Certification or equivalent experience in Heavy Duty Mechanics preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical issues.
- Familiarity with cross-border transportation compliance is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 with Air Brake Endorsement preferred).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
