Driver Trainer

The Driver Trainer plays a vital role in supporting the company’s safe and efficient operations by providing training, mentorship, and performance evaluations for both new and experienced drivers. This position ensures compliance with Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations, company policies, and industry standards while fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Reports to: Driver Safety and Training Supervisor

Responsibilities
  • Deliver classroom, yard, and on-road training to new hires and existing drivers.
  • Evaluate drivers’ skills, safety knowledge, and understanding of transportation regulations.
  • Coach drivers on trip planning, logbook compliance, cross-border procedures, cargo handling, paperwork, and load securement.
  • Train drivers on the proper use of tractors, trailers, reefers, electronic logbooks, scanning systems, and other essential technologies.
  • Conduct ride-alongs and performance evaluations to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Provide refresher training in areas such as defensive driving, fatigue management, accident prevention, regulatory updates, and post-incident remedial instruction.
  • Maintain accurate records of training, certifications, and driver progress.
  • Ensure full compliance with Canadian NSC (National Safety Code) and U.S. DOT/FMCSA requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Safety and Operations teams to identify training needs and implement program improvements.
  • Promote a safety-first culture while acting as a mentor and role model for drivers.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Valid Class 1/AZ driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 4 years of verifiable long-haul driving experience (Canada–USA).
  • Previous experience in training, coaching, or mentoring is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations, including NSC and DOT.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deliver constructive feedback in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Proficiency with electronic logging devices (ELDs), GPS systems, and other trucking technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.
  • MELT Certified Trainer or membership with the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA).
Compensation

The range of salary is between 50,000 - 55,000.
